Koʻolau mountain prints

Prints of the Koʻolau range on windward Oʻahu: fluted cliffs and hidden valleys from the air, and the ridge above Kahana Bay after a climb in the dark.

The Koʻolau range runs the length of windward Oʻahu. Thousands of years of rain have carved it into sheer fluted cliffs, deep valleys and knife-edge ridges, and most of it is only seen up close by hikers or from the air.

ʻĀlina and Pūʻao were made with a drone, looking for shapes in the folds of the mountains. ʻĀlina means scar, and it's a reminder that scars can be beautiful. Kahana was made the old way, after a climb in complete darkness to a ridge above Kahana Bay. Kahana Valley below is one of the better preserved ahupuaʻa on the island, the traditional land divisions that run from the mountains to the sea.
