Kahana
Kahana
This image was created on the East shore of O'ahu. Waking up in the early hours of the morning, I hiked up this ridge in complete darkness in order to find this vantage point for sunrise. I am particularly fond of this image because of the sweeping nature of the ridge in the foreground blending seamlessly with the beach below, creating an "S" shape. This image is meant to emphasize the flowing nature of life and how unexpected circumstances can work together to create something beautiful.
The valley in view is called Kahana Valley and is one of the more well preserved ahapua'a on Oʻahu. An "ahapuaʻa" is a sociological and geological land division from mauka to makai (mountain to sea), which typically held all of the resources for a native Hawaiian community to thrive on.
